Let me know if there are any questions for Councillors after last evening’s community meeting that you might like Councillors to respond at our next meeting. I have not received any member questions for Councillors this month. I like to give the Councillors a heads up in the week ahead of our meetings so they can make enquiries with Council officers if necessary.
Urban Forest Strategy
Bass Coast Council is currently identifying planting spaces within townships throughout the whole shire. This is being undertaken by a number of team members on site or via aerial imagery systems.
Corinella has been identified as a township that would benefit from increased canopy cover, along with (particularly) San Remo, Pioneer Bay and Wonthaggi. Council intends to plant a number of trees in these townships this year, identifying gaps on 1 to 2 streets in each and planting suitable tree species.
Council intends to plant about 400 trees throughout the shire, of which 65 are planned for Corinella nature strips.
The Urban Forest website is in the final stages of development (hoping for this to go live next month) and a significant tree registry is being developed that will have an interactive map for community members.
Which Corinella streets would benefit most from increased coverage and should be prioritised? Add your preferred streets as well as any specific species you would like to see throughout our township in the comments below before March 16.
